The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised candidates participating in the November 16, 2019 governorship poll in Bayelsa State to avoid inciting statements during their campaigns.

The commission gave the warning in Abuja yesterday in a statement by its Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye. Okoye, a national commissioner of the electoral body, disclosed that INEC would on October 14 publish the Register of Voters and present same to all the political parties sponsoring candidates for the election.

“The events will take place at the commission’s offices in Yenagoa for Bayelsa State and Lokoja for Kogi State, and will be presided over by the Supervising National Commissioners (SNCs) and assisted by the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the respective states,” he stated. Forty-five political parties will contest the governorship election in Bayelsa while 23 will contest in Kogi.

According to him, the cleared political parties are those sponsoring validly-nominated candidates. He reminded the political parties that submission of names of polling agents for the election to the electoral officers in the two states would end on November 2, while campaigns end on November 14.
