A socio-political group, The Egor Voice, has warned against imposition of candidates in today’s primaries by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.

The group’s leader, Nosa Osagiede, said the decision by some leaders in Egor local council to impose candidates is unacceptable. He condemned the alleged imposition of a female chairmanship aspirant, against the people’s popular choice.

Osagiede condemned the rejection of Dr. Osaretin George Izevbuwa, who was the consensus sole party candidate in the area.He condemned the alleged imposition of candidates across the 18 local council areas.

Across several local council areas, the allegation of imposition is widespread, as some aspirants’ caution against allowing it to create division in the party.

According to Osagiede, it would be counter-productive to impose unpopular chairmanship and councillorship aspirants in the council’s poll scheduled for March 3, 2018.He said the consensus choice of Izevbuwa, was in line with the zoning structure of the local government, which zoned the Egor chairmanship to wards one to five.

The popular decision also zoned the vice chairmanship position to wards 6 and 10 in the Uselu area.He explained that the party’s resolve was to balance the political power equation in the interest of fair play and justice.Osagiede said Izevbuwa’s choice had the support of the 10 ward leaders in Egor, as well as the massive support of youths in the area.

He urged Governor Godwin Obaseki to ensure fair play in the primaries across the state.According to him, giving a level-playing field to all aspirants is imperative for peace and a transparent local government election in the entire state. He expressed concern that some selfish political leaders were bent on imposing unpopular candidates against the will of the people.
