The Enugu and Ebonyi chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked the Federal Government to commence the process of creating an additional state in the zone to address the alleged imbalance in the federation.

The states at their separate presentations yesterday to the party’s committee on true federalism also want the alleged lopsided appointments and other infrastructural needs of the zone to be addressed to check agitation.

This comes as former Secretary to Enugu State Government, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, urged the central government to draw up a road map on restructuring the country.

State would bring the Southeast zone at par with other zones.

The Ebonyi chapter, whose position was presented by elder statesman, Chief Egwu Chime, however opposed state police, saying it would provide the leeway for state governors to intimidate opponents.

In another development, Olumba Olumba Obu of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has declared that the ongoing agitation by IPOB would not succeed.
According to him, “Biafra should disappear because it is not in the agenda of God.”

He maintained, “Nigeria is one and will remain so.” In a similar vein, the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has urged the agitators to discard their bid.

The Primate, Nicholas Okoh, said the church would never support any call for the disintegration of the country.
