Election peaceful in Akwa Ibom, impressive turnout in Cross River

Election in Akwa Ibom State was peaceful, though accreditation and voting started two hours after scheduled time in most voting centres.
Also, card readers failed in some places, such as Uduak Ward 2, Paul Bassey Street and a few other areas, while turnout in the three senatorial districts were impressive. Soldiers were seen on major streets of Uyo, with none at the polling units. Some first time voters expressed excitement at participating in the exercise.

Similarly, some parts of Cross River Central and South districts experienced voting delay, because materials did not arrive early. At Ikom Urban Ward One, where INEC office is situated and the collation centre in Presbyterian Church of Nigeria Primary School, materials were still being distributed to Ad-hoc staff as at 11:45 am.

Some Ad-hoc staff complained of not receiving proper result sheets for their polling units, and so waited.The state INEC Auditor in charge of distributing materials in Ikom, Mr. fidelis Agbo, said materials arrived polling units late because vehicles that brought them to the collation centre came late.In Calabar South, Ward 12, Units 44, no voting material had arrived by 12noon.
