Dickson’s men get PDP senatorial slots in Bayelsa

Former commissioners in the Governor Seriake Dickson’s government, Lawrence Ewrudjiakpo (Works), Blessing Izagara (Science and Technology) and House of Representatives member, Douye Diri, emerged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the just concluded senatorial primaries.

Former commissioners in the Governor Seriake Dickson’s government, Lawrence Ewrudjiakpo (Works), Blessing Izagara (Science and Technology) and House of Representatives member, Douye Diri, emerged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the just concluded senatorial primaries. Izagara emerged winner the Bayelsa East senatorial district in the 2019 general elections and will replace Senator Ben Burray-Bruce, who withdrew days before the election.

He scored 330 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nimi Amange, who scored 62 votes, while Darius Obiene and Ayibaesin Edoghotu polled two votes each.Barrister Biriyai Dambo (SAN) scored one vote, while three votes were voided, totaling 400 votes of the accredited delegates that participated in the election. Ewrudjiakpo won the Bayelsa West senatorial district slot, while representative of Yenagoa/ Kolokuma/ Opokuma Federal Constituency, Diri, got Bayelsa Central slot.

However, Amange, a former senator in the state walked out of the venue of the primaries in anger, alleging foul play in the process.He later announced his defection from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to pursue his ambition.

Announcing the result of the primary election, Chairman of the Election Committee, William Alamene, thanked delegates for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during and after the exercise.Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd), commended delegates for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during the election, noting that it was a family affair and that the greater battle was ahead.He, therefore, advised PDP Party faithful to be united and ensure that the party clinches the Bayelsa East senatorial district seat in 2019.
