Kwara PDP aspirants pledge to respect result of primaries

Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday lamented that the All Progressives Congress (APC) plunged the country into economic crisis, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has what it takes to make Nigeria great again.

The PDP presidential aspirant, who visited Asaba, Delta State in continuation of his consultations for his aspiration, said he is in the race to redeem Nigeria and set it on the part of good governance. Also, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who was also in Asaba on the same mission said: “Nigeria needs a president that fits appropriately in the estimation of its dwindling economy next year.”

Tambuwal said one of his cardinal aims was to unbundle the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and reduce the bureaucratic bottlenecks withholding the country’s economy.

But in Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade said of all the PDP presidential aspirants, Senator Ahmed Makarfi was more qualified, because of his legendary sense of justice, inclusiveness, human and resources management. Ayade who got emotional and shed tears while recounting how Senator Makarfi, as National Chairman of PDP, stood for Cross River State in its hour of need in spite of huge temptations, spoke in Calabar yesterday, while receiving Makarfi at his office.

However, the Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked for the vice presidential slot in the build up to the 2019 general elections.State chairman of the party, Ndubisi Nwobu, made the demand when Saraki visited Awka, to solicit support for his presidential bid. Nwobu said Anambra State and the South East have a cream of well educated and highly experienced people among whom a vice presidential candidate could be selected.

The slot, he emphasised would be in honour of Second Republic former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who he said, demonstrated undivided loyalty to former President Shehu Shagari. Speaking, Saraki promised to restructure all segments of the nation’s polity if elected president. He said there was poverty, insecurity, unemployment, hunger and misrule in the country, adding that Nigerians should not vote with sentiments.

Also speaking, a former PDP governorship candidate in the state, Oseloka Obaze described Saraki as eminently qualified to fly the party’s flag and win the presidential poll.He expressed the hope that the PDP convention would be transparent and credible, so that the right candidate would emerge.

Meanwhile, Saraki had met with PDP governorship aspirants in Kwara State, urging them to conduct their campaigns in the build up to the primary election in an orderly manner.A former Deputy Governor, Joel Ogundeji, state chairman of the party, Kola Shittu and Secretary, Rasaq Lawal joined the meeting shortly before it ended.

Briefing newsmen, Sha’aba Lafiagi, said the meeting was convened to ensure that peace reigns in the party, adding that all the aspirants agreed to respect the outcome of the primaries, which he noted, would be conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.
