APC, GPN lose supporters to NNPP in Bauchi

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State appears to be losing popularity as no less than 4,500 among its members have defected to the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP).

Some members of the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) in the state also crossed to NNPP yesterday. The defecting members said that they took the decision with the aim to help dislodge were the ruling APC in Bauchi ahead of the 2019 elections.

The defectors are mostly supporters of former Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda, who hails from Bauchi North. Explaining the rationale behind decision, the leader of the group, one time senatorial candidate under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 election, Umar Farouk said the APC‎’s administration has lost focus, direction and it is putting the state in unbearable hardship.

Farouk said they decided to defect to the NNPP because they were not getting dividends of democracy at the state level and the party is a youth driven party.

According to him, “We resolved to move to NNPP after much consultations we come to understand that there is no strong opposition party like NNPP in the state the number of developmental projects.”

The defectors were received by the state Chairman of NNPP; Eng. Mohammed Barde during inauguration of he party’s Bauchi South office in Azare Town Katagum Local Area.

According to Barde, “Those that joined our party were at least 4,500 in number. They were card-carrying members of the APC and Green Party before they defected.”

He pledged to carry them along to ensure justice and fairness “this will make NNPP become the strongest opposition party in the state and the country.”

Barde further pointed out that NNPP is the strongest opposition party in Bauchi and it has good intentions to serve the people and save the citizens from anti democratic oriented parties.

He described the development as a great victory for NNPP and democracy, saying, “We are happy to see this breakthrough to receive such personalities under NNPP umbrella. We would be up and doing to embrace them with all honesty.”

He also called on the NNPP supporters to be more committed in moving the party forward “we are not going to tolerate any discrimination against our new members.”

Prominent among the defectors includes Alhaji Audu Mai Auduga from Bauchi South, Honourable Umar Farouk from Bauchi North and Alhaji Ibrahim Shetima Gamawa among others.
