Anambra 2017: Chidoka emerges UPP guber candidate, as PDP postpones primary

• One Delegate Feared Dead In Police Teargas During Protest 

Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has emerged winner of the United Progressives Party (UPP) primaries for the November 18, gubernatorial election in Anambra State. 
 
This is even as a delegate of the party from Owerre Ezukala in Orumba South Local Council of the state was feared dead from suffocation when police fired tear gas at aggrieved UPP delegates, during a protest at a popular hotel in Awka, venue of the party accreditation centre.  
 
It was gathered that the deceased, Maduabuchi Uwakwe, said to be the chairman of one of the wards collapsed and died as some youths invaded the venue to protest exclusion of their names from the accredited primary.

  
However, efforts to confirm the reported death from the police proved abortive, as the Police Public Relations Officer’s line was not connecting.Chidoka scored a total of 1,222 votes out of the 1,473 accredited delegates, to beat his rival, Chudi Ofodile, who scored 87 votes, while 19 votes declared invalid.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced the postponement of its party primary scheduled to hold yesterday till further notice.
