Ajayi canvasses good leadership, quality electioneering process

An All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in the July 14, 2018 election in Ekiti State, Prince Debo Ranti Ajayi, has described the faulty process of producing political office holders as the bane of good leadership in the country.

Ajayi disclosed this to journalists in Lagos, while unveiling his political ambition. He regretted that Nigerians don’t assess political office seekers based on their potentials and vision, but instead pursue financial inducement, resulting in the birth of selfish leaders.

The aspirant, who served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and later Commissioner for Trade, Investments and Innovations under former Governor Kayode Fayemi, said his aim is to rebuild the state.

“I am interested in the governorship seat because of the potentials of the state. I want to use my experience to take Ekiti State to another level. Any development in the state would transform Nigeria because of the numerous potentials the state has.

“I am the right candidate for the governorship seat. I will ensure proactive communication and carry the people along. I will hob-nob with the people, because no leader can be effective without engaging with the people, “he said.He warned that for the APC to win convincingly, the process of electing a flag bearer must be free and fair, so that the party’s chances would not be endangered.

“If APC has the right candidate, we will defeat the incumbent. We need to produce a credible alternative. And I am positive we can achieve that. But if APC loses this time, it might be the end of progressives in the state.

“I hope to provide leadership that would inspire collective and collaborative approach and overcome challenges. Together, we can restore Ekiti to prosperity and abundant life and regain the core values of Ekiti’s dignity and identity. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you all to tackle and resolve the myriads of problems that affects us in Ekiti. With the resources and talents available, we can elevate Ekiti State as a model to which other states aspire,” Ajayi said.

He added: “This is the time for Ekiti people to get it right and I am sure that the control of the existing structure in the state would not have any impact on the primaries, which will favour me. I am sure that on July 14, APC would have the day.”
