Adeyeye cursed me over Ekiti PDP governorship primaries, says Fayose

•I only told him not to call my line again, he declares
• ‘His exit won’t affect PDP’s electoral fortune’

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has disclosed how a governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye cursed him over the outcome of the last primaries.Fayose revealed this in a radio and television programme in Ado Ekiti.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said in a statement yesterday that Fayose had called Adeyeye twice to appeal to him to accept the contest, which he lost to the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

Fayose said: “I called Adeyeye twice and on each occasion, he rained curses on me and would not even listen to what I had to say. He said I should never call him again. But I am not afraid of the curses, because I know that I have not done anything to warrant that, or for the curses to have any effect on me. He said he would fight me with everything he has. But, “I am Peter the rock nobody can fight me.

“By the constitution of our party, I have the right to support anybody for a position, just like I have the right to vote for anybody during elections. I did not hide my preference for my deputy among those seeking to succeed me as governor in our party; so, I was surprised at his reaction.”

The governor expressed concern at Adeyeye’s response, noting: “If it was him that I supported for the position, would he have done that? The process through which our candidate emerged followed due process.

Meanwhile, Adeyeye has denied cursing the governor, confirming that he only told him not to call his line again.Also, he had while addressing his supporters in Ado Ekiti, announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a yet to be announced party.He disclosed that about five political parties had since approached him to pick their governorship ticket, promising that as a democrat, he would consult widely before taking a decision.

Reacting to Adeyeye’s purported exit from the PDP, Fayose said it wouldn’t affect the fortunes of the party in the July 14 governorship election.He said the PDP has demonstrated to the whole world that it can offer a level playing ground for everybody.

Fayose expressed: “How many state governors have supported their deputies to aspire to be governors? I have nothing personal against anybody, and Olusola has been loyal, effective and committed as my deputy and I cannot repay him in a bad manner.” The governor explained that he took the step to reach out to Adeyeye, in line with the spirit of sportsmanship and to reconcile with any aggrieved person.
