Too early for South Africa to forget

Sir: South Africa is a country whose people would have been struggling for freedom without the intervention of some countries, especially Nigeria. But today the citizens of the great fighter nation’s are been humiliated in the country referred to as home for Nigerians.

Tracing the history of Nigeria’s assistance in the struggle during the apartheid era in South Africa, Nigeria was one of the foremost supporters of the anti-apartheid movement and she spent over sixty-one Billion US dollars in fighting apartheid in South Africa. The Nigerian government issued more than 300 passports to the South Africans seeking to travel abroad. “Then, why the humiliation today?”

Since the attainment of Nigeria’s independence, it has been in the front line for the freedom of every African country most especially South Africa. During the Murtala Mohammed and Olusegun Obasanjo regime, Nigeria nationalised the British petroleum for supplying oil to South Africa, that was when South Africa needed help that is actionable.

Because of the “love” to South Africans by Nigerians, Nigeria decided to abstain herself and influence other African countries to stay away from the commonwealth games to show support to South Africans due to the attitude by British government towards them and promise to fight with their last drop of blood to set South Africans free. What a huge sacrifice, but it seems all the struggle was in vain.

South Africa should stop killing Nigerians and any African for that matter. South Africans must not forget that the independence day they celebrate every 27th of April, Nigeria was one of the fighters…
