Stop the political contractors

letterSIR: Nigerian politicians, to me, have not learnt any lesson politically and progressively since Independence in 1960. Rather, what they have learnt are political violence and election malpractices.

Majority of our politicians are only political contractors fighting for political power and money. This is why they always play bad and crude politics.

Sadly, ex-convicts, drop-outs, murderers, treasury-looters are allowed to contest for elective positions. Are we a serious people? Truly speaking, we will continue to wobble and fumble politically.

Too much free money is involved in our politics. And therefore politicians do anything to “capture” elective positions. The last general elections were partially free, fair and credible.

In some states, there were no elections at all. Instead, results were manufactured and written by shameless politicians, political godfathers and thugs, backed by security personnel.

For instance, the gubernatorial election in Rivers State was a charade. The question now is: can Nigerian politicians ever get it right? I doubt. This is because they are not serious and they are so desperate.

As a matter of fact, the impoverished and maltreated electorate, who always queue in the sun and rain to vote have cursed politicians. This is because their votes are not counted, innocent blood is shed before, during and after elections.

Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, tried his best to see that we had successful 2015 general elections. The politicians, as usual, wanted to frustrate and rubbish his name and reputation.

History will never forget Orubebe. Also, the likes of controversial Governor Fayose and Fani-Kayode will continue to be on the bad side of our political history for their blasphemous, inciting and poisonous utterances.

Already, both of them have buried their heads in the sand. They didn’t believe that General Buhari would win the Presidential election. Sadly and unfortunately for Fayose and Fani-Kayode, PDP has been carried away by a Tsunami of horrendous proportion.

And the political jobbers and contractors in PDP have started defecting to APC. Shameless politicians! But seriously speaking, if we want to get it right in 2019, we should embrace electronic voting system, that will curb election malpractices. We must prevent questionable characters from participating in politics in 2019. We must sanitise our political system to allow credible people to vie for elective offices.
