No to campaign of calumny

SIR: Anyone who is familiar with the political terrain, the avalanche of seasoned politicians, eggheads and the array of intellectuals in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA will no doubt be surprised by the call made by a group of youths under the name ‘The Patriots’, in a petition calling on APC to reject the candidacy of Dr. Adewale Elija (aka JAH) over a matter of manslaughter on which a High Court adjudicated and a judgment was duly delivered as far back as 1988 (26 years ago).

Two pertinent questions to the group are: Was this group not in existence before the primaries for the House of Representatives? And why did they have to wait to write their petition after the outcome of a well-conducted primaries which saw Jah not only coming top (even with combined votes of all the other four contestants) but the incumbent at the Lower House of the National Assembly by a wide margin votes of 129?

Since the people of Ifako-Ijaye had already made their choice to fly the flag of APC in the 2015 elections, what is now required is for all hands to be on deck at ensuring victory of Jah who can aptly be described as a grassroots politician of note whose unflinching support by the people in the area cannot be doubted going by the result of the primaries

Jah, who is an astute and large-hearted politician had remained a household name in Ifako Ijaye for more than three decades.
