IKEDC impunity on Layiode residents
Sir, Unity Estate, a community in Layiode in Ikorodu, for the past one month, has been thrown into total darkness.
Members of the community complained to the Ikeja Electricy Distribution company (IKEDC) officials about their high estimated electricity bills which do not correspond with the services they were enjoying.
The transformer supplying light to the community was overloaded, leading to a sharing formula of two-days on and one-day off.
Even at that power supplies were epileptic and could not power electrical appliances in the community.
Complaint by the community that they were over billed compared to surrounding communities that were enjoying constant supply of light was ignored by IKEDC officials that promptly went ahead to download and incapacitate the transformer throwing the entire community into darkness.
This unwaranted action has crippled business activities in the neighbourhood and the darkness is now constituting great security risk to members of the community.
The IKEDC should do the needful by issuing electricity bill based on consumption ratio of usage and not on estimated billing to meet the IKEDC official driven estimated target.
