Sir: President Muhammadu Buhari provides cheap cannon fodder for the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode and Ben Nwabueze who, among a plethora of others like-minded folks, are more than convinced that Buhari has a hidden Islamic agenda for Nigeria.

Femi Adesina just issued a statement to the effect that Mr. President went all dewy-eye over the aborted rocket attack by the Houthi Shi’ites of Yemen on the Sunni Saudi Arabian city of Mecca. Buhari going dewy-eye for Saudi Arabia and neglecting to console the people of Benue, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger states etc., over armed Fulani attacks at home is one big political misstep; the painful truth at home is that these Fulani attacks are directed against settled Christian agrarian communities.

We gleaned from Adesina’s statement that the Saudi air-defence system intercepted this Houthi rocket-shot some 65km from Mecca; this is the more reason Buhari should have just minded his own business and leave the Arab Sunnis and Shi’ites alone. Saudi Arabia most likely has invested heavily in the Israeli Iron Dome defence system or the American Patriot anti-missile defence system (with a lot of Jewish inputs, naturally), and this goes to demonstrate that the Saudis are more than capable of taking care of their own.

The tone of Buhari’s conversation with the King of Saudi Arabia indicated that he has already sided with the Saudis, and by demonizing the Houthis in terrible epithets Buhari also indicated he is ready to continue the crackdown on Shi’ites.
