Sir: The recent downpour has flooded Ashaka, a town in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State. The flood has particularly taken over Mater Dei College and its environs. The road that leads to the school from Kwale is completely over run by the water and has divided the road into two. In this situation, non of the students can attend school from Kwale and over 80 per cent of the day students come from Kwale. The school is closed now for two weeks running and we are still watching the water level to come down. The school fence has fallen down due to the flood.  Some areas in Ashaka town are also flooded though it is not as serious as that of 2012 that almost covered the entire town. My guess is that people did not build houses or try to block the path that allows free flow of water hence it did not cause much havoc.

Students may remain at home for only God knows when. They may probably forfeit their mid-term break to meet up with first term’s scheme of work when ever school resumes.

It should be noted that Mater Dei College has made landmarks in academic excellence and sports. The school needs government support earnestly as it is yet to recover fully from the 2012 flood where so many infrastructure were damaged. The Ndokwa Local Government Area should please come to the aid of some dilapidated public primary schools.
