Sir: The road mishap which occurred near Ijawaya village, along Oyo – Ogbomoso road on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 which involved an articulated vehicle and a bus conveying school teachers among others to Ogbomoso from Oyo added to the number of the carnages on that road as a result of insensitivity of our rulers.

In the said mishap, five promising lives were lost. These included three principals: Mr. Oke, Olugbon High School, Orile Igbon, Oyo State; Mr. Johnson Fawole, Adafila Community High School, Orire local government, Oyo State; Mr. Ogunremi, Caretaker Community High School, Ogbomoso.

The rest are Mrs. T.A. Ajao, an account clerk at Nurudeen Grammar School, Ogbomoso and the driver of the ill fated bus. The above excluded those who were injured and being treated at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

The failure of successive governments after Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who started the Ibadan-Ilorin Expressway to complete the road shows the wickedness of our rulers and their disdain for the people they govern. Besides, non-completion of the road is also an indictment of the political office holders particularly at the national level from Oyo central and Oyo North Central Districts as incompetent. Our esteemed royal fathers are too silent on the bad condition of the roads especially on Oyo North, especially in Oke Ogun.

It is regrettable that we have read in the dailies that money has been budgeted for the roads and our representatives in the National Assembly have been beating their chest for the feat. But up till now, the construction company has not returned. President Buhari’s administration has the onerous task of building roads to save the lives of Nigerians.
