Yuletide: Oyeyemi cancels vacation for FRSC officers

To forestall the incidence of traffic gridlock that has become a reoccurring decimal every December in the confluence town of Lokoja, the Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has ordered his men to cancel all leaves and vacations during the festive period.

Oyeyemi, while addressing officers and men of the corps shortly before flagging off the road safety campaign, tagged, ‘Operation crash the crash during the festive period,’ ordered sick officers to report for duty with their medications, as logistics would be provided for them even at the road side.

He also cautioned Governors Convoy drivers to always respect traffic rules and regulations by looking up to the FRSC officials to make easy routes for them to pass for easy traffic flow, rather than using siren to harass and cause more confusion.

“We have engaged most of the governors who are now complying and we have trained some of their drivers.

“When they are approaching gridlock areas, they should allow the patrol teams to assist them to allow for free flow of traffic for ease of movement.

“Most of the governors have cautioned their drivers and urged them to exercise a little restrain on the roads, saying this became necessary in view of the zero-crash order from the federal government.

He described Lokoja as a special corridor where gridlock of any kind would not be tolerated, adding: “I don’t want to hear any report of gridlock anywhere in the state considered as a key strategic point in our campaign.”

He promised the officers adequate logistics to make their job easy and record success, noting: “Kogi is a confluence state that records vehicular density. There is no way you will go to the northern or southern parts of the country without passing through the state, through the eastern or western flank.

“We appeal to all road users in or approaching Kogi, because of its strategic location, to be more careful on the road, so that if there is a gridlock, the traffic flows and they get to their destinations within a short time.”
