My work will campaign for me, says the governor

Former Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo, has declared that the incumbent governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, does not deserve a second term in office.

Okunomo disclosed this yesterday in Akure when intimating newsmen with his plans and moves to contest the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, affirming that he would defeat other PDP aspirants to become the party’s candidate.

He, however, noted that the governor had the right to seek re-election as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution, affirming that the golden and deductive interpretations of the law do not favour him for re-election.

According to him: “It means that if a governor has done well, he should be re-elected and if he hasn’t done well, he should not be re-elected. Governors should not hide under the provisions of the law to say they are entitled for the second term.”

He lamented that many governors in Nigeria would try to perform well in their first term but perform woefully if elected again.

Okunomo, the former chairman of Ilaje Local Council of the state, disclosed that the present administration only did projects sparingly in Owo, Odigbo and Akure South local councils.

He said: “In this state today, I will challenge the present government in Ondo State, as the little presence of this administration is only felt in three councils out of the 18 in the state.”

Meanwhile, Governor Akeredolu, who had earlier declared that there was no PDP in Ondo State, revealed that it was the people of the state that prodded him to seek re-election, saying his projects across the state would campaign for him.
