Yoruba youths laud Makinde, Abiodun on plan to revive ranches

The apex South-West youth organisation and umbrella body of Yoruba youth groups, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) Worldwide, has applauded Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun, for taking step to revive ranches in their respective states.

This was contained in a statement by its National Secretary, Olawale Ajao, in Ibadan yesterday.

According to YYSA, reviving ranches in all farm settlements across South-West region is a reasonable step to resolve farmers/herders crisis.

“We commend the governors of Oyo and Ogun states, Oluseyi Makinde and Dapo Abiodun, for making move to resuscitate ranches in various farm settlements in their respective states. We implore other governors in the region to follow suit immediately.

“In less than five years to come, cattle rearing will be a major business to be ventured into by South-West youths if after the completion of those ranches, they kick-start Livestock Special Intervention Programme (LSIP) whereby youths will be empowered and monitored for effective cattle rearing at various ranches/farm settlements close to them across the region.

“Continuing, with the giant developmental strides embarked upon by our governors through the creation of ranches at located farm settlements, we want our governors and monarchs to reject National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), which is a Federal Government initiative that aimed at given undue advantage to herdsmen”.

“We must think deeply and free ourselves from deadly herders through the establishment of Livestock Special Intervention Programme,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Aare Ona-Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the pieces of advice in an open letter written to him recently by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Adams stated this at this year’s commemoration of the yearly Okota Festival held at his home-town of Arigidi-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Council of Ondo State at the weekend.
