The apex Yoruba youths’ body, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) Worldwide, has urged the National Assembly to enact a law to stop absenteeism of members.

The apex Yoruba youths’ body, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) Worldwide, has urged the National Assembly to enact a law to stop absenteeism of members. This was contained in a statement made available to The Guardian in Ibadan yesterday and signed by its National Secretary, Olawale Ajao.

According to the group, many of the senators and honourable members have care-free attitude towards their duties as lawmakers. The group said: “Law against absenteeism is unavoidably needed to serve as enforcement of disciplinary action on lawmakers who had less than 50 per cent attendance of plenary sections in a year at both upper and lower chambers.

“It is preferable if such law could empower the leadership of the National Assembly and National Assembly Commission to stop the emolument of affected members indefinitely without further consideration.

“More so, lawmakers who had regular and full plenary sections but unspoken throughout the year should also be considered affected under the law against absenteeism when enacted. “This would go a long way to ensure that lawmakers at both federal and state levels are more dedicated and indeed have right attitude to work as obliged.”
