Forum to commence in less than an hour

This year’s edition of the Doha Forum, a two-day policy conference under the theme “Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World” is about to kick off this Saturday morning. The forum comes under the patronage of Amir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari leader.

The yearly conference, now in its 18th edition, brings together heads of state, international decision-makers, business leaders, and advocates to exchange ideas, raise critical questions, and inspire thought to action around some of the most pressing challenges around the world.

The first plenary session “Global Order Revisited: Old Actors, New Alliance” will feature the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, his Somalian counterpart as well as the Foreign Minister of Romania. The plenary moderated by Munich Security Conference Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger will discuss the dawn of a new world order which is seeing the rise of new and unconventional alliances in the face of international conflict.

Mr. Ali Shareef Al Emadi, Minister of Finance of Qatar, will join H.E. Berat Albayrak, Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, and Christian Sewig, CEO of Deutsche Bank, in discussing “The Growth Potential of Emerging Markets and the Impact on the Global Economy”, moderated by Financial Times Economics Editor, Chris Giles.

H.E. Mr. Ali Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, will also participate in a plenary session titled Prospects for International Trade and Investment with Volker Treier, Vice Chairman of the Federal Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Stephane Garelli, Professor Emeritus of World Competitiveness at IMD & Professor at the University of Lausanne, moderated by CNN’s John Defterios.   H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum will join H.E. Dr Yury Sentyurin, Secretary-General of GECF and Claudio Descalzi, CEO of ENI in a Plenary Session discussing New Age Energy Policy.

Saeb Erekat, Chief Palestinian Negotiator, and Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, will each participate in Newsmaker Interviews.   Hamad Bin Khalifa University will hold a book launch event, introducing The Gulf Crisis: A View
from Qatar.

Doha Forum 2018 will also feature a Shared Studios Portal by Doha Debates, enabling participants to have real-time, life-sized video conversations with young and inspiring people in some of the world’s most troubled places, including Gaza, Iraq, and Rwanda.
