RUSSIA launched a probe into attempted murder after a mysterious blast on Thursday injured two people at a bus stop in the Siberian city of Angarsk, local officials said.

A man was hospitalised and a woman was lightly wounded, regional law enforcement officials said in a statement, adding they received the first reports of a “loud bang” at 8:00 am local time (midnight GMT).

Investigators launched a probe into attempted murder and illegal possession of explosives, the regional investigative committee said.

Local edition of Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper published pictures from the scene, where several police cars were blocking the street and a pool of blood was visible next to the charred carcass of the bus stop.

The male victim lost his leg due to the blast, a witness named Dmitry told the paper. The blast shattered the windows of a nearby daycare and authorities were evacuating children from a school in the neighbourhood, the report said.
