As part of commitment to accelerate the 2030 Agenda and building momentum for the effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially goal number five, which is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, women have been urged to close ranks.
The call was made by Bukonla Adebakin, Chief Operating Officer, RED, a Lagos based communication agency with focus to reach and inspire the largest number of African youths.

She made the call as part of activities for this year’s celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD). She pointed out that data shows that the gender gap is widening, and suggests there desperately needs to be new ways of thinking if the world will succeed in closing this gap.

Adebakin noted that it is quite common for younger men to get support and sponsorship from older, more established men in the workplace, a necessary tool for career advancement. Successful women have not extended this same privilege to the younger females with whom they work.According to her, the society needs to change its thinking and start asking the questions that will drive us closer to gender parity.
