Jubrin warns APC must zone positions or suffer consequences
Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, has promised to run a legislature that will serve the interest of Nigerians and devoid of undue squabbles with the Executive if elected Senate President in June.

The lawmaker, who spoke with journalists in Lagos yesterday, also promised to respect the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should the party decide to zone the position away from the North-East.

He said Nigerians deserve better legislations and adequate support that would guarantee an improvement in their standard of living.

“I believe that the experience I have gathered over the years will help me run and operate a Senate that will provide sustained positive change through legislative interventions.

“We must do everything possible to support entrepreneurship, help businesses grow and stand so that jobs can be created for our teeming youths,” he said.

Lawan ruled out the possibility of crisis in the APC over the leadership of the Ninth National Assembly.

Meanwhile, former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has warned that grave consequences await the ruling APC if the party fails to urgently unfold a proper zoning arrangement for the leadership positions in the Ninth National Assembly.

Jibrin, who spoke while addressing State House correspondents after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa at the weekend, stressed the need for a great deal of engagement and lobbying as it was done in other democracies to choose the leadership of the parliament.

He warned APC lawmakers in both chambers not to allow themselves to be used by the opposition, akin to what transpired in 2015 where a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator emerged Deputy Senate President in an Assembly largely dominated by the ruling party.

He said: “I believe that no any elected member or senator of the APC will allow himself to be used by the opposition like in the case of 2015.”
