Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State yesterday identified huge investment in education as reason nations like Singapore, India, Malaysia and other Asian Tigers are ahead of Nigeria.

Masari stated this yesterday at the commissioning of a study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), at his hometown in Kafur Local Council Area of the state.

He explained that Nigeria began its developmental journey alongside many of the Asian Tigers, but they surpassed her after making huge investments in the education sector.

The governor said it was due to this that his administration had been making efforts at giving priority to education through investment and manpower development.

Part of such investment, he said, was the study centre, which the state government built donated to NOUN.

He, however called on youths in the community and neighboring local governments to avail themselves the opportunity provided by the centre to enable them obtain their first Degrees.

Special Adviser to the governor on Higher Education, Bishir Usman, reiterated government’s commitment towards the development of tertiary institutions in the state.

Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Abdullah Uba Adamu, said programmes to be offered at the study centre have been accredited by the National Universities commission (NUC), and called for regular admissions to sustain the centre.
