Why APC must win Katsina by-election, by Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must win Saturday’s Katsina North senatorial district by-election.

Speaking yesterday in Daura, Katsina State at the grand finale of APC campaign ahead of the poll, he said the APC wants to win the election so as to form majority in the National Assembly.

He stated that the party’s victory at the poll would honour the late senator Mustapha Bukar, who occupied the position before he died on April 4 this year.

Osinbajo added that APC victory would also ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari, who hails from that senatorial zone, would be honoured, as the party’s leader.

No fewer than six candidates from six political parties are contesting the position, with Ahmed Babba Kaita as APC’s flag bearer.

He said the country was currently going through a battle between good and evil stressing that evil men trying to pull down the Buhari administration would not succeed.

He urged Nigerians to vote for the APC in the interest of the common good, adding that the country will only get better, as long as Buhari gets another term in office.

Osinbajo said the Federal Government under President Buhari has been up and doing in the socio-economic transformation of the country, especially in roads construction.

“All of these things we are doing when we were earning far less than what was earned when we were not in government,” he said.

Speaking, National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, said the Buhari administration had restored Nigeria’s confidence in the international community.

Oshiomhole, who spoke in Hausa, said many Nigerians, including himself, could now confidently go abroad without being embarrassed about the country.

He added that the country’s resources was wantonly embezzled in the past, but that under Buhari, Nigerians are assured that their commonwealth was in safe hands.

On Saturday’s election, he called on voters to accept money given them by politicians from other parties, but “vote for the APC candidate.”

The rally, which held at the Kangiwa Square, besides the entrance to the Emir of Daura’s palace, had several dignitaries in attendance.

Some of them include the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Water Resources Minister, Suleiman Adamu, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who was represented by Commissioner of Lands, Suleiman Abdulkwari.

Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, senators Umar Kurfi (Katsina central) and Abu Ibrahim (Katsina south) also attended the event.
