Warri Boys Association cautions Delta people against violence at guber poll

President of the Warri Boys Association (WBA), Lagos branch, Chief Godwin Okene, has charged Delta State electorates to eschew violence and any acts of thuggery, as the nation prepares for the gubernatorial election scheduled March 9, 2019.

Okene added that any form of negative activity or anti-social behavior would be inimical to peaceful and orderly gubernatorial election if the voters do not conduct themselves well at the polling booths.

According to him, the Niger –Delta people have always been known to be peaceful, law abiding and very accommodating people who cherish freedom and peace.

He, therefore, advised that these virtues, which have remain sacrosanct with the people should be upheld before, during and after the election, adding that elections should be seen as a ‘do or die’ affair

“Let me again remind our people in Delta State to remain law abiding, peaceful and orderly, as we approach the gubernatorial election.

“It is also important that we know that elections should not be seen as ‘war’ but as an opportunity to elect capable and honest leaders that will impact positively in the lives of the people,” he said

He urged the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain an impartial umpire by ensuring that no candidate is given preferential treatment or given undue advantage before, during and after the election

Speaking, Secretary of the association, Martins Nomuoja appealed to the Delta electorate to come out en masse and vote for the candidate of their choice, stressing that the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are the power of the electorate to elect leaders of their choice to deliver the dividends of democracy to them.

Meanwhile, the National Executive of Offa Descendants Union (O.D.U) has congratulated the Senator-elect for Kwara South Senatorial District, Lola Ashiru, over his electoral victory.

A statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Maruf Olalekan Ajenifuja, the National President, Dr. Funsho R. Oladipo, described Ashiru’s success as victory for not only democracy and rule of law but also for Offa in particular and Ibolo land in general.

“Being the first Offa man to be elected Senator is record-breaking. His courage, persistence and resilience in the face of political impasse, turmoil and depression have finally paid off,” Oladipo said.

“We pray that under his reign as Senator, Offa will witness unprecedented socio-political and economic transformation,” the statement reads.
