Anglican archbishop seeks outright cancelation of RUGA
Few days after a security summit in Oyo State, three Fulani herdsmen, suspected to be kidnappers, were yesterday arrested in Ifedore Local Council of Ondo State. The Guardian gathered that the suspects were apprehended by some members of a vigilance group in a forest at Irese, an agrarian community in the council.

A farmer in the community, Mr. Toyese Adebanji, who noted that they belonged to a gang of kidnappers terrorising and demanding huge ransom from their victims, confirmed their arrest. Adebanji, who disclosed that the suspects were apprehended with arms and ammunition in their hideout, said: “The Fulani herdsmen were apprehended at Irese community by the vigilante group during an early morning raid.

“Immediately after their arrest, they were taken to the palace of Olurese where they were interrogated. They confessed belonging to a ring of kidnap-gang that scattered inside the forests of the state – where they always keep their victims.

“In fact, one of them confessed that the ring leader in the camp escaped when the local vigilantes stormed the kidnappers’ den. These gangs kidnapped some people in Odudu area and they also abducted a man at Ayee community but freed him after paying a ransom of N300,000.”

Meanwhile, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Niger Delta of the Anglican Communion, Calabar Diocese, Most Rev. Tunde Adeleye, has called for out-right cancelation of the RUGA settlement. Adeleye stated this yesterday while briefing journalists at the Cathedral Church of The Holy Trinity, Calabar, on the events lined up towards the 2019 Synod of the diocese. He said: “The suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement project is a welcome development. We should all note that this has only been suspended and not out-rightly cancelled. This is still dangerous and scary.”

This shows that peace has not yet come. It is a common fact that Nigeria is now divided along religious lines. It has never been so terrifying as this. There is a heavy promotion of one religion over and above others in Nigeria.“The fear is quite palpable and can be proven. This mass movement of cows in the country is a ploy to Islamise the country.”

Adeleye, who is also the Chairman, Christian Council of Nigerian (CCN), South-South Zone, said: “If I meet President Buhari today, I will tell him Your Excellency you have tried but resign because none of your aides is telling you the truth. All the people around you are not good and if you resign, all of them will be ashamed, they are deceiving you.”
