Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State says the collapse of Reigners Bible Church in Uyo, the state capital was caused by human error. He assured the citizenry that anyone found wanting by the investigative panel would face the full weight of the law.

The governor, who spoke during the state’s Christmas carol festival in Uyo at the weekend, pledged that his administration appreciated the pains of the affected families.

“No calamity can separate us from the love of God. We remain the only state that is named after God Almighty and our faith in the Lord remains sacrosanct,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) has called for a stiffer legislation that captures registration of every building as well as profiles of the architect and consultant.

The institute’s president, Tonye Oliver Braide, who made the call in an interview with The Guardian, bemoaned the alarming rate of building collapse in the country.

According to him, there must be a responsibility clause to bind the architect to the project until completion and certification.

Also yesterday, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) urged the Federal Government to strengthen professional regulatory bodies to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

In a communication by its public relations officer (PRO), Adeyeye Adetunji-Tam, AMLSN while sympathising with the victims, charged the “Council of Registered Engineers (COREN) and other relevant agencies not to treat this incident and other cases with kid gloves.”

The association directed its members in the state to mobilise safe blood and relief materials for the victims.

It was no human error but an act of negligence and corruption. If not the masses could or better demand the structural and statical designs of not only this collapsed church but most of other buildings that have in the past collapsed. Donot be surprised that there will not be any available. Contracts are awarded on who knows who or on the highest (corrupt) bider not mining the experince and qualification on the job. Quacks get the jobs while the expertises donot. Oh EVIL society!!!!?
