THE University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been closed down and the institution’s management has asked the students to vacate their hostels immediately.

It was gathered that the closure, which the UNN management said was temporary, was actually to avert the students’ riot being planned to hold this week. A said on condition of anonymity that the planned strike was over an “acute water scarcity and epileptic power supply” that has lasted for long.

However, a statement from the UNN Chief Public Relations Officer, Okwun Omeaku, read: “This is to bring to the notice of all students and the entire university community that the University of Nigeria shall proceed on a two-week mid-semester break with immediate effect.

“Consequently, all academic activities on the campuses are hereby suspended for the period. Students are by this notice directed to vacate their hostels not later than 6p.m on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.”
