United Evangelical Church Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference maiden yearly conference held from September 6 to 9, 2018

The four-day conference of United Evangelical Church Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference, themed: “The Need For Restoring The Former Glory” and taken from Haggai 2:3, and Nehemiah 2:17.

The four-day conference of United Evangelical Church Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference, themed: “The Need For Restoring The Former Glory” and taken from Haggai 2:3, and Nehemiah 2:17. The Conference, which held at United Evangelical Church, Ogwe-Asa, attracted over 3,000 Christians from far and near.

The dignitaries that graced the occasion included Rev J.O.A Ogbonna (JP), Chairman OAAC, Rev S.A.N Nlewedim, Secretary OAAC, Chairman of Conference; Rev. S.U. Ebukiba was represented by Rev. U.A. Chigbu, the Secretary, Aba Area Conference, Rev. A.C. Nwankpa, Rev. C.U. Emelogu (Chairman of Conference emeritus) and his wife. The wife of Abia State governor, Deaconess Nkechi Victor Okezie Ikpeazu was represented by Deaconess Hon. Precious Achumba, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Abia State, Elder E.E. Nwobia (Registered Trustee), Rev. Dan Nwankwo (Chairman Board of Trustees Advance), Elder Obioma Chigbu, Chairman of the occasion, HRN Eze S.C. Nwachi, Ohazurume II of Ogwe, Hon. Sam Nwogu, Chairman ASOPADEC was represented by Deacon (Barr.) Henry Chilaka (ASOPADEC). Mr. Nnanna Innocent Ogbuji, NPA Port-Harcourt, Elder N.O. Nwagbara, National Member, Elder S.K. Njoku, Rev. J.N. Ajuzie, Chairman Umuaro Area Conference, Rev. A.U. Azubuike, Hon. Goodluck Nwaobiwe, Chairman Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State.

The conference was presided over by Rev. J.O.A Ogbonna (JP) and assisted by Rev. S.A.N. Nlewedim. In his address, Rev Ogbonna thanked God for journey mercies granted to guests. He also thanked God for Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference that started on January 1, 2018.

Speaking on the theme of the Conference, Ogbonna urged members to pray for the former glory to be restored, so that there will be peace in the land. He also enjoined Christians, as well as Nigerians to avoid sin and live a holy life.

Dr. Okebugwu Dan Nwankwo, who delivered the keynote address, lamented that the value system has disappeared from the society simply because Christians have abandoned their faith for material wealth. He charged all to repent and live for righteousness to avert the looming consequences that will befall unrepentant sinners.

The wife of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Deaconess Nkechi Okezie Ikpeazu speaking through Deaconess Hon. Precious Achumba, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties in Abia State, enjoined Christians to love one another, so as to attract God’s blessing. They were also enjoined to pray for Governor Ikpeazu.

Elder Obioma Chigbu, Chairman of the occasion tasked members to love God and ensure there is cooperation among component units of the Area Conference, so as to advance the cause during the December 2018 National Conference.

In his sermon, Rev. Anthony Azubuike admonished Christians to love one another, shun materialism and live a holy live. The Chairman Ukwa West L.G.A Hon. Goodluck Nwaobiwe reminded Christians to pray for the nation and Abia State, as well as the governor and those entrusted with governance of the people.

On state of the nation, the Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference prayed God to grant President Muhammadu Buhari good health and divine wisdom to govern the nation. The Conference urged the President to tackle the menace of Boko-Haram and Fulani herdsmen activities. They also wanted the president to ensure free and fair election in 2019.

The Ogwe Autonomous Area Conference commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s effort in building and reconstructing bridges, roads with drainages, payment of the primary school teachers salaries, and asked that the same should be extended to other categories of workers and pensioners to enable them live meaningfully.

Six people were honoured with special awards for their outstanding contributions. They are: Mr. Nnanna Innocent Ogbuji; Rev. Dan A. Nwankwo; Elder E.E. Nwobia; Deaconess Blessing Nwauchechi Achumba; Elder S.K. Njoku and Elder Erondu U. Erondu Jnr. Several goodwill messages were received from individuals, communities, churches and Area Conferences. At the end of the conference, a communiqué was issued.
