The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions has suspended its indefinite strike after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Government.

The Chairman of the union, Mr. Samuel Bashayi, announced the suspension of the strike while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.

Bashayi said that the suspension of the strike was due to the commitment made by the State Government.

NAN reports that branches of the union at the College of Education Akwanga, College of Agriculture and state’s polytechnic in Lafia had embarked on an indefinite strike since October 19.
“Although our demands were not met because of appeal and interventions by traditional rulers and other stakeholders, the union shifted its ground for now.

“The state government and other stakeholders appealed to the union to call off the strike and promised to grant all our demands,” Bashayi said.
The chairman said that the state’s traditional council, led by Malam Isa Mustapher-Akwai, who is also the Emir of Lafia, had intervened and pleaded with the union on the matter.

He said that following the intervention, the union resolved to suspend the strike for two weeks.
