UNIBEN alumni seek better deal for education

As the new ministers settle for work, the president, University of Benin Alumni Association worldwide, Ifaluyi Isibor, has charged civil servants working with the new Minister of Education to be open and transparent in their dealings, as according to him, that would determine the success or failure of the new helmsman. 
  
 
Addressing reporters in Benin City on the activities of the association and the recent awards to distinguished Nigerians, including the Managing Director of The Guardian, Emeka Izeze, Isibor said Nigeria had workable education policies like other sectors but the bane had been implementation. 
   

“The minister won’t change anything, the minster will be tempted to say these are our policies, we have had a lot of policies and they are all good policies. What is important is how are you implementing them. Our constitution is not bad but how are you operating it? What we should do is for us to have a total commitment.”

He also urged alumni associations to set up endowment funds as obtained elsewhere to help fund their alma maters. 
 

Isibor equally lamented dearth of employment opportunities for qualified teachers across the country.
