THE Appeal Court sitting in Enugu yesterday dismissed the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the Labor Party (LP) in the Ebonyi State governorship election, Mr. Edward Nkwegu, for lack of merit.

It consequently upheld the verdict of the tribunal in Ebonyi State, which affirmed the victory of Governor David Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 22 election.

Delivering judgment on behalf of four other Judges, Justice JOK Oyewole explained that the five reliefs sought by the applicant lack merit.

The Election Petition Tribunal in Abakaliki had in October dismissed Nkwegu’s petition challenging the declaration of Umahi by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election for lacking in merit.
