Two students of Benue State University (BSU) were killed in Makurdi, the state capital, in cult clashes. The killings occurred in separate areas within the capital city between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The first incident took place at about 8:30p.m. on Tuesday at High Level when suspected cult members attacked the deceased and shot him, while on Wednesday, a 400-level student of Theatre Arts Department was hacked down opposite the second gate of the university at about 4:30p.m.

According to an eyewitness that pleaded for anonymity, the final year student was going to have his hair cut when young men numbering 17 accosted him and shot him. “The attackers were armed with guns, axes, cutlasses and stones. They rushed at him and shot him.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incidents. “With the little information at out disposal, it is as a result of rival cult group clashes, because the second person that was killed was said to have participated in the killing of a 300-level student in the university.”The spokesman added that one of the suspects has been arrested and is making useful information to the police.
