Two female bombers, one soldier die as troops, terrorists clash in Adamawa

• Army destroys 46 artisanal refineries, arrests 49 suspects in N’Delta
• To conduct Exercise Vulcan Glow Five in Kaduna

Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole yesterday said it had killed two female suicide bombers while a soldier lost his life when they engaged Boko Haram terrorists in Gulak, Madagali Local Council of Adamawa State.

A statement signed by Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman in Abuja yesterday, said the soldier died from the impact of shrapnel from a detonated Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED), while three other soldiers were injured by the VBIED mechanism.

Usman said that the troops successfully repelled the Boko Haram terrorists’ attack in Gulak and neutralised the VBIED mechanism while the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Gulak town, adding that the remains of the soldier have been evacuated while the injured ones are receiving medical attention in a military hospital.

In a related development, 46 illegal oil bunkering camps and artisanal refineries have been destroyed across Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states by the military.

Similarly, 49 suspects have also been arrested in 19 separate incidences on various offences ranging from cultism-related activities, illegal oil bunkering, illegal possession of firearms, narcotic activities, financing criminalities and kidnapping, among others.

The 6 Division Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, who stated this in Port Harcourt yesterday, said that illegal refining camps were destroyed and the suspects arrested in line with the Nigerian Army Operation Crocodile Smile II exercises conducted simultaneously across the areas of responsibility of 2, 6, 81 and 82 divisions of the Nigerian Army covering parts of South-West, South-East and South-South geo-political zones of the country.

Meanwhile, the army has said that it will hold a live firing training exercise nicknamed “Exercise Vulcan Glow Five” starting from Monday, November 13 – Friday, November 17, this year at the Military Training Range, Kachia, Kaduna State.

A statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Michael Etete, said the training was a continuation of the Nigerian Army’s training activities for the year.

Etete said: “The general public, especially residents of Kachia, are advised not to panic and also to keep away from the general area of the exercise.”
