Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Camerounian Defense Forces yesterday killed 15 terrorists while clearing remnants of insurgents on Lake Chad Islands of Borno State.Spokesman of Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement released Wednesday in Maiduguri said the insurgents were dislodged from their hideouts after fierce aerial and ground battles.

“After the battles with the terrorists, 11 were killed in Gomaran village of Southern Lake Chad Basin,” said Nwachukwu in the statement.He further disclosed that in the Firgi and Moula axis of Dikwa and Bama council, the troops also neutralized four insurgents, while fleeing Sambisa forest at the northern flank.He added that two Boko Haram flags, a pair of camouflage uniform, a pair of combat boots and a bag of mechanic tools and medication were also recovered.

According to him, 53 hostages were rescued, comprising four men, 33women and 16 children.He said the rescued are being profiled before handing them over to officials of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps for documentation.

On how Civilian JTF were killed in Konduga, he said: “The elderly man pretending to be weak and feeble was being searched by the vigilante; when he detonated a suicide vest contained in a bag he was carrying.

“Unfortunately, three members of Civilian JTF paid the supreme price in the incident. The wounded have been evacuated for medical attention in Maiduguri hospital.”He urged members of the public to vigilant and discerning, as they go about their daily activities.
