Tribune dedicated to excellence, truth, says Awolowo-Dosumu

Chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) publishers of the Nigerian Tribune titles, Ambassador Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu has promised that the paper will continue to serve the interest of the country and the world by dedicating itself to truth and excellence.

Awolowo-Dosumu, while speaking during the Tribune’s Platinum Awards as part of its 70th anniversary, said the paper was out to celebrate excellence and stand by the truth.

According to her, “truth and commitment are our watchwords. The media is not only to commend or condemn what is good or bad, but it is also its responsibility to recognise excellent services and dedication of the individual to nationhood, which brought about the people we recognising today.”

The awardees include Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo State; Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Godwin Obaaeki (Edo).

Former governors, Senators Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) were also recognised.

Others to be honoured were Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Sir Kessington Adebutu, Imam Abubakar Abdullah, Dr. Mike Adenuga, wife of Ondo State Governor, Betty Anyawu-Akeredolu, and others.

Awolowo-Dosumu also gave an insight into the future of Tribune titles, stating that the “organisation is into the digital space”, just as she assured that medium would remain in circulation in the next 70 years.

In his remark, the Managing Director of Tribune, Mr. Edward Dickson, said the paper is a national institution not only by the sfact that it was established by the late Chief Obafemi Obalowo but that “ Tribune preceded the independence of Nigeria.”

Also speaking, Olagunsoye commended the organisers, recalling that his greatest achievement in office as Osun governor was his ability to end the Ife, Modakeke war.
