Traditional council announces burial rites for Olu of Warri

olu-of-warriTHE Itsekiri Traditional Council yesterday announced the burial rites of the late Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, who passed on recently.

The council also said that the new Olu of Warri, Prince Ikenwoli Gbesimi Emiko, would be officially installed on December 12, 2015 at Ode Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people.

The announcement of both events was made by Chief Yahya Pessu, the Ojomo of Warri, and the brother of the new Olu, Prince Yemi Emiko.

According to the Itsekiri council, the traditional burial rites of late Olu begins on Thursday November 19, 2015 with a commendation service at the palace in Warri.

The traditional burial rites continue November 20, at Ode Itsekiri and will last for 14 days.

Coronation of Atuwatse’s successor will be on December 2015 beginning with a regatta on the Warri River from about 10 a.m. same day
