Hoodlums yesterday attacked the convoy of former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at Kofa town.

Kwankwaso, who represents Kano Central Senatorial district, was said to be in Kofa town in Bebeji Local Government Area for the last campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but was invaded by suspected thugs of the opposition party.

A source, who disclosed this to The Guardian, said scores of Kwankwaso’s supporters were injured and about 40 vehicles destroyed.

When contacted, spokesperson of PDP gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Sanusi Bature, who confirmed the incident, alleged that thugs sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, were responsible for the attack.

He, however, said no death was recorded, but Commissioner of Police (CP) in Kano, Mohammad Wakili, confirmed the incident, saying details of the attack were still sketchy.

Effort to speak with the lawmaker was not successful, as he could not respond to calls.

However, Governor David Umahi has alleged that there were plans by some desperate politicians to import thugs into Ebonyi State to bomb offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 13 local government headquarters.

He disclosed this yesterday in Abakaliki, while fielding questions from newsmen after a state broadcast ahead of Saturday’s elections, saying, “I have also been told that there are plans to bomb lNEC local government headquarters offices.”

Meanwhile, Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP), Rabiu Ladodo, has said he would arrest anyone caught snatching ballot boxes for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Ladodo, who stated this at a media briefing on preparations for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, prayed that there would not be any incidents of ballot box snatching during the elections.

The new CP in-charge of elections in the state, added that the police and other sister security agencies would patrol the streets and use automated equipment to ensure that hoodlums are tracked and apprehended.

He promised to meet the expectations of the people, who according to him, are prepared to come out en masse to elect candidates of their choice on Saturday.

Ladodo, who addressed newsmen at the state police command, with heads of immigration, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prisons, Immigrations, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Navy enjoined people of the state to perform their civic responsibility.
