Thugs attack Kwankwaso’s convoy in Kano, injure 15, damage vehicles

Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State yesterday escaped a mob attack, as unknown hoodlums touched his convoy, leaving scores injured and vehicles damaged.

The incident occurred along Panshekara underpass when the thugs laid siege to his motorcade while returning from the inauguration of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in his hometown of Kwankwaso.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, who was born on October 21, 1956, inaugurated the institution named after his mother to commemorate his 63rd birthday.

The Guardian learnt that the thugs, who were fully armed with machetes and other weapons, descended on members of the Kwankwasiyya movement at the highway, a development that halted business and vehicular movement for several hours.

Spokesman of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 polls, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, accused the state government of orchestrating the attack.

No fewer than 15 members of the party and the movement were reportedly injured and hospitalised, eyewitness said.

“Information at our disposal confirmed that hundreds of political thugs were assembled by officials of Kano State Government at the Sharada/Sabon Titin Panshekara underpass to disrupt the convoy of the opposition PDP Kwankwasiyya,” he added.
