A non-governmental organisation (NGO), United Global Resolve For Peace (UGRFP) has urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to sign bilateral treaty with the Moroccan government in the fight against terrorism in the region.

It said with Morocco’s experience in fighting terrorism; there is need for the ECOWAS to take a decisive action by signing the agreement with the North African country. 

Executive Director, UGRFP, Olaseni Shalom, who stated this while on an advocacy visit to the speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, His Excellency Moustapha Cisse LO in Abuja, said the commission must ensure that the setting up of a terrorism task force among member states, is created for peace and security in the sub-region. 

Shalom said: “With the alarming rate of terrorism in the world, particularly in West Africa, there is an urgent need to create a terrorism task force to bring about peace and security in the region and also with the experience of Morocco in fighting terrorism, ECOWAS should sign a bilateral treaty with Morocco in the fight against terrorism.”
