There was palpable tension at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State, on Thursday, following a clash between the Nigeria Police Force and members of the All Progressives Congress.

The police Thursday morning barricaded and restricted access to the state electoral head office.

They prevented INEC officials and visitors from going in and out of the office.

Trouble started when the APC protesters stormed the premises to protest a Supreme Court judgment which barred the party from fielding candidates in the elections.

Consequently, the police fired teargas to scare the protesters away.

The party will not field candidates for the National, State Assemblies and the governorship polls.

The protesters are threatening that election will not hold in the state if APC is not on the ballot.
