Elder statesman, Malam Tanko Yakassai has expressed concern over the sudden shift in the general election.

In a chat with The Guardian in Kano, Yakassai believed that the development was indicative that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was at the beck and call of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Yakassai believed that the decision by the body to shift the elections must have been at the instance of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami who last week prevailed on INEC to shift election in Zamfara State.

Yakassai said it was unfortunate that INEC had to kow-tow to the whims and caprices of Malami, adding that as things stand, the integrity of the outcome of the general election billed to hold next week would be questioned.

He said: “I am completely disappointed with INEC. They had the money and resources at their disposal. There is simply no excuse for the postponement of this election, other than to suspect them of doing the bidding of the government in power.

“ I am aware that they were already under pressure to shift the elections after the justice minister called for it. I hope the outcome of the election would not be disputed with this suspicious and questionable act by INEC.
