Tanker spills content, locks down Oke-Afa

Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo and environs in Lagos State were on a lock down yesterday after a fuel tanker’s collision with another truck at the Oke-Afa junction, popularly known as Pako roundabout, caused severe congestion on the major artery.

The incident led to the tanker with registration number KRD 669XQ, belonging to PETROCAM GAS, laden with PMS, spilling its content on the road and it took the intervention of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), which cordoned off the area to road users before the petroleum products could be safely evacuated to prevent an explosion.

The immediate cause of the incident was due to a collusion of the tanker with a tipper laden with sand while trying to navigate its way at the roundabout. Thankfully, there was no loss of life and no injury sustained. Fire officials were seen at the scene working to blanket the spilled content so as to avoid a secondary incident.

This is coming hours after travellers and motorists were held down on the Otedola Bridge en route to Berger before emergency workers cleared a truck that fell on the bridge. A traveller said the truck fell while trying to avoid a tanker carrying diesel that fell at Mobil inward Otedola on Monday evening. “I have been here for over two hours. It was multiple accidents that happened but they have cleared it now,” he said.
