Suspected militants attack troops, kill soldier in Bakassi
The Nigeria Army has said a soldier and two suspected militants were killed in an encounter early yesterday morning, when the troops were attacked by some elements of the Bakassi Strike Force, led by one of the persons declared wanted in the Niger Delta.
A statement issued by the Army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, said the group attacked the troops from several speedboats, led by the alleged kingpin, “Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1) leader of the Bakassi Strike Force, deployed at Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi LGA of Cross River State.”
The statement explained that though two other soldiers were missing in action, reinforcement with more gunboats was deployed and they were rescued. It also warned would-be troublemakers to desist from any act that would tamper with the nation’s peace.
The statement read in part: “During the attack, a soldier was killed in action, while two soldiers were also missing in action.

We will review and take appropriate action.
