Suspected cult members gun down 13 in reprisal attacks
Not less than 13 persons have been gunned down by suspected cultists who have been on rampage over the death of one of their members killed by a rival cult group.
Though there have been series of killings and kidnappings carried out by cult groups in the last two years, the immediate cause of the recent onslaught started on Friday night where one Danjuma Amodu also known as Murphy, was gunned down while relaxing in front of his family home at GRA Idah.
In what seemed like a reprisal attack, gunmen in a Volkswagen Golf car held the ancient city of Idah hostage, shooting sporadically and indiscriminately. Many fell to the bullets and many others sustained severe injuries.
The gunmen blocked the road between Ibro Junction and Bishop Road Junction, from where they proceeded to a drinking joint at Igalaogba in search of their possible target. The owner of the bar, Haruna Achema and his wife were reportedly shot while a customer was also killed instantly.
At Idah Waterside, eight persons were reportedly killed while another woman was also felled by stray bullet.
