According to a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, the incident happened on Saturday at about 3:00p.m. when the suspect who came to buy a bottle of beer at a restaurant located at No. 4, Ijagun road, Ijebu-Ode, refused to pay.

It was learnt that his refusal to pay led to an argument between him and the shop owner, Temitope Adedayo, consequent upon which the deceased, who happened to be her customer, intervened and asked the suspect to pay for the beer.

“The intervention of the deceased infuriated the suspect who broke a bottle and stabbed the peacemaker.”

“The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Igbeba Division. Upon the report, the acting DPO of Igbeba Division, SP Onah Lawrence, led his anti-crime men to the scene where the said Taiwo Olatokunbo was promptly arrested. The victim was quickly rushed to state hospital at Ijebu Ode for medical attention but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.”
