As Muslims worldwide yesterday celebrated the Eid-El-Kabir, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has appealled to Nigerians to eschew hate speeches, so as to safeguard the peace and unity of the country.

The Sultan, who spoke in his broadcast to mark the occasion, observed that separatist agitations have been coming from both the northern and southern parts of the country, but added that God did not make any mistake by bringing us together as one country and it was only through total obedience to God that His plans for Nigeria, as great country, could he fulfilled.

According to him, rather than bemoan our differences, Nigerians should see our diversity as a source of strength and capitalise on it to build the country into an enviable nation.

He praised a delegation from Edo State, which was in Sokoto for the Sallah celebration and to rejoice with the people of the state, describing it as a demonstration of love and unity.

The Muslim leader recalled that a similar delegation from the state had earlier visited Edo and conducted a mini durbar, which was highly appreciated, adding:

“That is how it should; it is only when we respect one another’s culture and tradition and other differences that we can achieve the much cherished unity in diversity.

He commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for the giant strides made by his administration and efforts of the Federal Government to re-position the country.
